Description
Academic analytics platform utilizing polyglot persistence across four specialized databases, each selected for its data shape.
Neo4j maps suspect networks and computes PageRank centrality, MongoDB stores investigation dossiers, MySQL handles official records, and Redis manages high-speed alert caches.
- Graph network analysis with Neo4j and PageRank to surface kingpin suspects.
- Polyglot persistence architecture optimizing query throughput across all services.
- Containerized deployment with Docker and Docker Compose.
Behind the project
Challenges
- Modeling deeply interconnected criminal data with very different access patterns (networks, dossiers, identities, alerts).
Trade-offs
- Polyglot persistence (Neo4j, MongoDB, MySQL, Redis) over a single database — more operational complexity, but each engine matched to its data shape.
- Neo4j + PageRank for the suspect network, Redis for low-latency alerts — one engine per use case instead of one comfortable default.
Lessons learned
- Matching the right storage engine to the right access pattern is itself an architecture skill, not an infrastructure detail.
